Here is your go-to recipe for healthy French fries. It will satisfy your craving for something salty and soft yet crispy. These fries are best fresh, of course, cooled off for a bit straight from the oven.
- 2 lbs. potatoes or sweet potatoes
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 tbsp. paprika
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Wash the potatoes well and cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch slices. Cut through the slices to make 1/2-inch-wide strips. Place the strips in a large bowl and toss with olive oil, paprika, and cumin. You will need to determine for yourself how much oil you want to use. One tablespoon is a good starting point, and see if it coats the potatoes to your satisfaction.
Arrange the potatoes on the parchment paper and bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or 25 to 40 minutes if using sweet potatoes. Stir occasionally until the fries are golden and crisp. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
For an Indian version, try replacing paprika with curry powder.
